Preguntado por un periodista para una entrevista en un medio francés acerca si Estados Unidos podría prometer que Kiev nunca caería en manos rusas Anthony Blinken dijo: “Estoy convencido de que ya lo hemos hecho. En otras palabras, esto no está sucediendo, nunca va a suceder”.

Según él, al comienzo de la invasión a gran escala de Ucrania en 2022, Estados Unidos anticipó la posibilidad de la caída de Kiev, pero ahora confía en que esto no sucederá.

“Pero gracias a la increíble resistencia del pueblo ucraniano, y gracias también al apoyo brindado a Ucrania por Estados Unidos, Francia y otros países, el deseo de Putin de conquistar todo el país, de borrarlo del mapa, de hacerlo parte de una Rusia más grande, no se ha materializado y no se materializará".

"Estamos haciendo todo lo posible, por supuesto, para evitar esta posibilidad y evitar una guerra, una guerra mayor".

"Pero al mismo tiempo, debemos apoyar absolutamente a Ucrania, porque la agresión rusa continúa hasta el día de hoy, sigue causando un daño atroz dentro de Ucrania y sigue presentando un peligro no sólo para Ucrania, sino también para Europa".

Asked by the journalist whether the United States could promise that Kyiv would never fall into Russian hands, Blinken said: “I am convinced we already have.  In other words, it is not happening, it’s never going to happen”.

According to him, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the US anticipated the possibility of Kyiv's fall, but is now confident that this will not happen.

“But thanks to the incredible resistance of the Ukrainian people, and thanks also to the support given to Ukraine by the United States, France and other countries, Putin’s desire to conquer the whole country, to wipe it off the map, to make it part of a greater Russia, has not materialized and it won’t,” he said.

“We’re doing everything, of course, to avoid this possibility and to avoid a war, a bigger war.”

“But at the same time, we absolutely must support Ukraine, because the Russian aggression continues to this day, it continues to do appalling damage within Ukraine, and it continues to present a danger not only to Ukraine, but to Europe as well,” Blinken added.
