Edward Jenner (17 May 1749 - 26 January 1823) was a British physician, scientist and Freemason who pioneered the concept of vaccines, including the creation of the smallpox vaccine, the world's first vaccine.

Jenner was raised a Master Mason in 1802 and was a member of Faith and Friendship Lodge number 270 in Gloucestershire, England. He was active in the fraternity, serving in 1812 as Master of his lodge. This lodge was regularly visited by the Prince of Wales, the future George IV, who was to play an important role in Jenner's life.
